with Inspiration

and honour

The Kwakwakw'wakw Fashion Show is thoughtfully held in April to honour and celebrate the birthday of my great-grandmother, a woman whose life and legacy continue to inspire me. She embodied strength, resilience, and pride in our Kwakiutl identity—qualities that are deeply woven into the heart of this event. Hosting this show is more than just a celebration of fashion; it is a tribute to her enduring influence and a way to keep her spirit alive through cultural expression. Her presence can be felt in the designs, the models, and the very purpose of this gathering. Through this fashion show, we carry her legacy forward, honouring not only her memory but the path she helped create for future generations.

Planning

Bringing the Kwakwakw'wakw Fashion Show to life was a journey that required careful planning, collaboration, and dedication. From the beginning, this event was shaped by a strong vision to celebrate and uplift the Kwakwaka’wakw community. The planning process involved coordinating with community members, models, designers, and artists to ensure that every detail reflected cultural pride and authenticity. Time was devoted to securing the venue, curating meaningful designs, and shaping the flow of the show to create an engaging experience. Balancing cultural protocols, family involvement, and the creative elements of fashion required patience, adaptability, and teamwork. Every step was guided by the shared goal of providing a platform for Indigenous artistry and celebrating our traditions in a modern, empowering way.

The Kwak Fashion Show would not be possible without the incredible support of our community. Local businesses, organizations, and individuals have generously offered their time, resources, and sponsorship to help bring this vision to life. I am especially grateful for the dedication of the volunteers, models, designers, and cultural leaders whose hard work played a vital role in the success of this event. It is through their contributions that the show continues to grow each year, becoming a space where Indigenous fashion, culture, and creativity can thrive. This fashion show is more than just a gathering—it is a reflection of the collective pride, strength, and unity within our community. I extend my deepest thanks to the families, friends, and supporters who continue to believe in this vision and help carry it forward.
